You can see this in the way the year usually runs

There is often a serious conversation before 30 June about tax. Then another one once the year is over and the numbers are finalised. Both matter. Neither one really gives enough room to ask where the business is heading, what is getting in the way, and what needs to be different before another year carries the same problems forward.

So the bigger issues stay in the background.

They get picked up in passing. A comment in another meeting. A note to come back to something later. A vague intention to sort it out once things settle down. They rarely settle down.

That is why so many owners carry the same unresolved issues from one year into the next. Pricing still has not been sorted out. The team is still leaning too heavily on the owner. The systems are still patchy. The business may be bigger than it was, but it does not feel simpler or clearer.

Long enough to work out what is still working, what is dragging on too long, what keeps being postponed, and what would actually make the most difference if it was finally dealt with.

Before the end of the financial year, the business is still clear enough to work from. You know where the pressure has been. You know what worked. You know what got delayed again. You know which decisions were made late, and which ones never got made at all.

That is useful. Leave it too long and the same patterns get carried forward by default.
